Spectacular storm headed your way.... Big forked lightning, mighty thunder, mega raindrops that hurt your heed It fired away from us here in Cat tonight as if towards the Balearics but just veered right back in and headed right to your bit in S of France. Brollies ahoy! Had to break, been so unseasonably hot this past ten days, 30-33 here in June is not the norm but loving it to the point of dreading home and having to put the blidddy heating back on

We'll god darn it, that was a first today....expecting to be flung about through the usual 30 layers of cloud down into a dull, wet, cold Glasgow June. Can honestly say that in all my travels this last 30 odd years, it's highly unusual to feel the rush of heat getting off the plane in Glasgow. Ain't life brilliant sometimes ?

Never felt that in Glasgow. But always in Brisbane, walk out the door a blast of heat and the scent of the Eucalypts ..... That will always be HOME to me

Oh my gosh, come home from lovely green Sweden and walk into Houston airport parking. 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity. Almost without fail, the pilot will say the temperature at the destination, and someone from Europe will say, oh that must be wrong. . .

They will be thinking Celsius Pilot will be using Farenheit 100F = 37C We use both just to confuse the unwary

Apart from the very south of Spain, Italy and Greece in high summer, I doubt the rest of Europe *gets* the humidity thing, Peony...North Africa's maybe nearer the conditions you have in Texas? Do you miss the more distinct seasons since you moved south?

I miss the seasons hugely. Especially fall and spring. Down here the warm season, from February until November starts feeling like an endurance test.

Yes, given the very high temps in Cat earlier this month, that I wasn't quite prepared for, I can imagine months of heat and humidity gets to a person. How people manage to put in a day's work, rather than lounging about on holiday/snoozing etc is beyond me. It was a bit of a relief when the big storm broke and cleared the air..did it ever reach you Bormes, 100 miles up the coast in France that night? Have to say, my first ever visit to Switzerland was a revelation this week. Yes, like Southern Germany, very hot sunshine in summer but yet the air itself quite cool in the shade, pretty perfect, really. It's the unreliability of Scottish weather that pisses us all off: but if you ever feel like dropping by enroute to Sweden, Peony, you can experience all four seasons in one day. Yes, even in high summer.

And someday I'm gonna do that, Rolo. Right now I'm fighting visions of the missing Malaysian flight for space in my rational mind.

I hear you, Peony Probably no help at all, but I've done maybe a couple of hundred-thousand flying miles this past 40 years or so with both scheduled national airlines and the cheapie versions... And every single time, I feel nervy upfront , it doesn't get any easier. My personal way of coping is that once we've taxied out and are on the runway in prep for takeoff, I get to a place where I just sit back and go "Whatever will be, will be, it's out of my control now". Then you place trust in the flyers. And remember that statistically, flying is indeed the safest way to travel...I tried REALLY hard to remember that on the way over to Barca the other week when I saw another plane getting just a wee bit too close for comfort. I was nearly up in the flight deck going..."Have you guys SEEN that other plane off the starboard wing" LOL! And don't we all do that thing whenever a loved one's flying, checking out the progress of the flight and insisting they text when safely landed, LOL! We'll meet you when you land in Scotland, Peony. With cups of tea, blankets and a warm welcome. x
