Where you get that quote from, Oz? A Dutch web site... remember they were neutral in WW1. It is very informative though some has to be taken with a pinch of salt www.greatwar.nl/Quotes from the Great War No 43 . 15 or 16??? Two members of the British Womens Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) tending the graves of fallen soldiers in Abbeville during WW1

Came across this wee story this morning and thought how apt It's the story of "pack up your troubles in yer old kit bag........... which has shamelessly been relaeased by the military wives choir ( and alan titsmarsh, eamon holmes etc) www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28730439Now when one looks a little deeper into teh song's story - via the BBC website ( oh the irony) then one finds this www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-25968407extracts include this... "...."By the middle of the week we were as amused as we were delighted to hear thousands of troops singing it en route for the docks." "But with success came heartache and bitter creative differences between the brothers. George had been a life-long pacifist, and as a conscientious objector he had reservations about his tune's use as a rallying cry from the outset. Felix on the other hand immediately signed-up, and spent WW1 as a staff sergeant touring the trenches with their morale-boosting ditty." "But St Asaph councillor and Powell enthusiast Denise Hodgkinson said that in time even Felix became horrified by how the song was being used." "But gradually he became very upset that it was his tune which was accompanying thousands and thousands of men to their deaths." Felix experienced a nervous breakdown in the trenches, and ended the war a broken man. Cameron needs to realise that the jingoistic "celebrations" of WW1 are crass and stupid ( or perhaps he does and doesn't care, as they are a good way of diverting peoples attention) wingsoverscotland.com/and-smile-smile-smile/#more-59672
