In my profession graduates have to do 6 months "practical" under approved supervision to get full membership. Luckily or unluckily I kept my UK Qualifications so I am an "approved" supervisor.
I got a steady stream of kids from the UK out here for a year and doing their 6 months practical applying for jobs. I took on some, most were good value.
I think it was great idea it gave them a break after studies and a good holiday.

Wee nota is living in Linlithgow now and working through there, but looking for a new job back this side His current employers shafted him basically, promised the earth and have failed to deliver. Which is a bit of a pity as he loves doing what he does and we're aiming to get a pharmacy some time Very difficult, as they are strictly controlled on how many can be in an area One went in bishop ton for @ £1.2 million another in erskine for @£1.6 millyin FFS Well, giving it the glass half full scenario, I guess there's worse places to get shafted than Linlithgow.. Lovely village, big links to Scotland's history---and the birthplace of one First Minister ;D ;D ;D So, you have to invest upfront then? That's some kind of money you're talking about there. How does it all work, given prescriptions are free for all Scots? Is it a volume thing? Are inner city premises more or less expensive than outlying areas? Is it a per capita thing? Genuinely interested because I'm completely ignorant about how pharmacy licences work, Nota. he's living in linlithgow but working in armadale, which can be desribed as the arse end of anywhere. Yeah money upfront for a pharmacy - although it is one of the few "retail" businesses that you can get a 90% loan for and pay it off in around 10-15 years- the drug wholesalers will guarantee your loan too It works basically on a per capita for an area and distance from other pharmacy in area.

Right, I see. Still is one helluva big loan though, scary Imagine the repayments in less time than the average mortgage! What pressure. But I guess we 're always gonna need pharmacies, even more now with an ageing population, so a pretty safe bet... Wean's boyf did first year Pharmacy at Uni but it didn't work out, he'd been 'guided' into it due to his qualis, mainly sciences. He's now much happier in Earth Sciences, bit of a glitch as he's now to pay his own fees for a year, but the long term's the thing. He works silly hours in N*ndos for £6 an hour to pay for his 'mistake'....

If you're really into something you'll do so much better, yeah? ;D I think you just gotta trust your instincts and they show up early doors, don't they?; Mr R at 7 was wiring up hifi speakers into the garden, at the same age I was hustling all my musical schoolfriends together and putting on 'shows'. 50 years on he's a respected sound engineer and I'm well........knee deep in music promotion and event management ;D ;D ;D The wean's been an observant people-watcher since tiny wee--so no surprise she's ended up studying Psychology. Everybody's good at something.

Same happened to my wee bro, Nota, eyesight at 17 wasn't good enough for pilot training. Drat.
But as you say, what's for you won't go by you. Easily my fave and most oft used maxim... ;D
Which is why I've repeated it tonight to Ms R;
She's been requested to cast for a TV ad to be shot in Scotland, which, if she gets it, will pay enough to fund her book and living costs for a year @glasgow Uni.
Given the difficulty students are having in getting part-time jobs that fit around studying (employers now looking for them to commit 16-24 hours a week @ minimum wage) it would just be SO bloody fantastic if Lady Luck shone on Ms R tomorrow.
What's for her won't go by her, to be sure, but pls send your best vibes to Glasgow @ 10am tomorrow ;D

Aye good luck to the wean -whit will it be advertising? Scottish Ad agency contracted from the Far East to promote a Scottish product over there. Let's just say it's a plentiful resource hereabouts. Take your pick! <clue, not Irn Bru> Ms R was one of six to audition this morning so we're realistic about the odds. What's for her, won't go by her, indeedy Thanks for best wishes, all. ;D

The "Tree house" on Lochgoilhead a number of years ago was hired in the winter for a whole week by a Geran film production company. They made a few porn movies, apparently some of the locals were watching from a boat, however nothing was seen!! Nota I don't think your friends were bit extras!!!!
