Heidie I agree with you about Europe, however if we were independent, we could be a trading partner without having to join and in my opinion we would be much better off trading again with our old Commonwealth friends as we have much more in common with them than some Romanian or Albanian. I mean do we need more Romany big issue sellers or Albanian Ponces and drug dealers? I think we have enough of our own frankly. Unfortunately Oz trade with UK has dropped to about 5% of our trade from about 80%. I cannot think of anything of yours we need now . When I was in Scotland you were building submarines for our navy. They were the last naval vessels you built for us. I did notice in the supermarket Baxters soups etc & Nairn? Oatcakes, Get frozen kippers occasionally from Aberdeen. Of Course Scotch is plentiful. Even then I find my fav brand of standard Scotch (Black Douglas) is blended here.

The Black Douglas, was that he who captured Stirling Castle? A woman walking the battlements was said to be hushing her child to sleep saying If ye are no quiet, The Black Douglas will get ye, Sure enough he was apparently sneaking over the battlements as she was saying this and gave her a tremendous fright!! I believe Scotch Whisky earned our country more finacially than any other export before oil?

Just listened to Alex on Politics now, sorting out the young lady regards the financial figures but done very mannerly. I was a wee bit concerned to hear him sound very breathless, has he got hay fever? I hope he is OK.

I believe Scotch Whisky earned our country more finacially than any other export before oil? I for one will be mighty interested to hear the figures re how much Scotland's industries, exports and indeed working people pay towards the Westminster tax and duty coffers, Bormes. There might just be a reason why the unionist parties want to continue the marriage of convenience

Well today, the young lady on the politics now show, quoted figures purporting Scotland cost the UK money. Mr.Salmond, quick as a flash, corrected her and told her the Government's own figures show categorically that Scotland pay much more in to the coffers than all the capital that comes back in every way. He also pointed out that was without a penny from oil revenue. She was shellshocked as he counted off the figures at his fingertips and he was very mannerly though he was very firm in his replies. Wonderful stuff.

Would love to have heard that! Was the Girl English from the BBC?
I love seeing these smug interviewers hammered, politely, into the ground

Yes Oz it was wee Anita, Andrew Neil's assistant on the program. Another wee point recently, there was a super injunction on speaking about Ryan Giggs a football player with Manchester United. In Scotland he was spoken about in the media as we have different laws in some cases.

Um, can someone tell me what exactly Michael Moore is for...? He seeks to argue the toss about stuff he apparently knows nothing about. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-13671907"...A spokesman for Mr Salmond said "Mr Moore's remarks on the referendum are wittering and irrelevant nonsense - reflecting the fact that he comes up with a new off-the-cuff position every time he talks about it. Acknowledged experts have made the democratic position clear, and the people of Scotland have the right to choose independence on the basis of one referendum agreed by the Scottish Parliament, on a published proposal, which is then implemented - exactly as was done for devolution in 1997." If Michael Moore is so uninterested in his job that he can't even be bothered to get the basic facts of the situation right, why / how the hell is he even in this job? Eejit.

Having watched Mr Salmond a number of times now and having watched Mr.Milliband (him of the false anger about the 7,000 cancer patients) I am afraid Mr Salmond has a much superior presentation style is much more accurate and really runs rings round labour, he is head and heels above the vast majority of politicians from which ever Parliament one wishes to choose.

Labour have called a snap by election in Inverclyde, the late Davy Cairns' seat, and are spending upwards of £100K on their campaign.
SNP therefore have only three weeks to mount a counter-campaign. Time for all good (wo)men to come to the aid of the party ;D a wee trip down to Greenock's on the cards for to undertake a bit of campaigning. Haven't been there since I worked on the last Tall Ships about 11 years back---it's coming back in July this year btw, well worth the trip down, it's a truly amazing spectacle.
Best views from the Tail of the Bank.

Would nota come to help you rolo? Hell now, there's an excellent idea that never occurred to me All offers of help gratefully received ;D It'll be a positive campaign, promoting all the achievements of the SNP government thus far. And we will be respectful, given the circumstances of the by election. Negative campaigning and slagging off the opponents is not how we do things anyway ;D

[ yoo huv ben tae gourock tae get ra ferry tae dunoon? Indeedy. But you confuse me, sire. The Tall Ships were moored as far as I remember at Greenock? For my not inconsiderable sins I got the job of organising the crews' onshore hangout at the whatsitsname leesure centre down on the front. (Next to the godforsaken retail park with the KFC and Tesco shite) 24/7 buffet, bar and musical entertainment. The sight of the uber-cool Mexicans striding on to the dancefloor in full uniform showing us how to REALLY do the Macarena will stay with me till the day I shuffle off ;D Mr Rolo's working it this year, so apologies in advance to local residents for the noise he plans to make I'm gutted to be committed elsewhere actually cos I'd love to hear a full blown rendition of Dignity played out live on the quayside with the Tall Ships as a backdrop
