The Underground recently done up at Hillhead is rather well done, particularly the wonderful painting/Mural by Alistair Grey. However the redoing of the stone on the Lanes, Ashton and Cresswell, is terrible, it is a waste of Council Tax Payers money, it is so badly done with gaps of over an inch between the pointing. Sad at such waste of money although I applaud some money being finally spent in the West End, a change from the East End and Celtic Park area!!

The muriel's amazing, Bormes, I stop awhile every time on the Tube to take it all in. Who are the couple on the far right hand side, do you know? The guy looks a bit like Archie Forrest to me. On the cobble 'repair', well...I've managed to trip over twice this week, at the bit at Ashton/Byres (it has a hump!) and the bit outside Cafe GoGo on Cresswell Lane. And I was a) sober and b) don't even wear those daft transvestite shoes...... Pavements being done all over the city in prep for the Commonwealth Games, particularly around Geo Sq and Merchant City, where I work. Yet Glasgow only spends 7% of roads budget on pavements compared to double figures in most Scottish cities.

Big Chris the Greek, he who did all the building work at the Chip and wee Barbara Rafferty. Permision was given to Alistair from the owners of the Grosvenor Cafe as they have the original mural of the Map and the other Lane Mural. It was commissioned by them for the Cafe many years ago!!

Barbara? I saw her at Hyndland yesterday and didn't recognise the muriel as being her! Well seeing the Gros Cafe owners are folks of taste and style...and spotted Alistair years before everyone else! Pee ess: a bunch of weekend millionaires had a bit of bother with the new cobbles outside Cafe GoGo this evening: all dressed in their finery and bling looking like something out of TOWIE, six big wummin had to cling on to each other all the way up, one nearly cowped it.. They, however were 1) not sober and 2)wearing thae 8 inch transvestite shoes... Oh dear. There'll be casualties... Attachments:

It's not actually Weegie, Oz.
It's a pop culture term that most of us of a certain age grew up with. Originated from TV, Hilda Ogden's muriel.
Back in the day when there were only two Chanels, and malapropism counted as comedy.

I'm interested to know why Barbara Rafferty is on it? (Oz she's a well kent Glesga acror, probably most famous for her role as Ella Cotter, long-suffering wife Of Rab C. Nesbit's pal Jamesie Cotter) Perhaps former owners could be asked if they know

Alistair's choice of people, some he asked did not wish to be considered. The Kelvinbridge subway stop should be next with a well liked singer portrayed in the Muriel!!

That's an interesting way of including the local "flora and fauna" in depictions of the locale, I'm surprised that some didn't want included, efter all its hardly what you would label dead-ringers and in a another way quite touching that he includes locals but also had teh good grace to ask their permission So its Sidney Devine for the Kelvinbridge muriel then?

My friend's living nearer Hillhead than K'Bridge these days, Bormes! Here's his take on the season for your pleasure: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA-7oQOzTXQBut yeah, it'd be fab to have another Alistair muriel there too. Loads of locals worthy of highlighting! Kelvinbridge is really on the up this weather: loads of brilliant independent shops, bars and restaurants opening up down Gt Western. (How our beloved Byres USED to be before GCC raised business rates to unaffordable...) But I guess K'bridge being 'on the rise' is gonna lead to property inflation, like 'gentrification' always does. Same's starting to happen on Queen Margaret Drive in North Kelvinside, some interesting businesses opening up there too. It's no coincidink, is it? <lightbulb>

Unfortunately they're all pretty much unwatchable. (Apart from BBC 4)... I think they cry it *dumbing down*. Progress, huh?
