Our lovely Oz has been away for a helluva while, Nota. Sometimes things are just... 'different from there'. I get that. So. Here's my wee challenge to Oz. Just consider for a second you still lived here. How would you vote? and why? I wouldnt know how to vote... I dont know enough about it. I know what I read in papers and from what I hear from friends there but not living there on a daily basis it is impossible to make a properly reasoned decision. Although I lived in Scotland for years it was never my country. Always part of me was looking in from the outside. I always felt I didnt quite belong, I was very glad to return to Oz though I still have a keen interest in Scotland and the UK. Sorry cant give a better answer Im sure no matter what the outcome we are going to get another flood of immigration inquiries

Oooooh still nothing on where Australia borrows its money from, something to hide perchance? I read on tinternet that convicted paeophile Rolf Harris has paid taxes in Australia, this must mean that Australia is funded by paedophiles. Hmm that must come a a bit of a shocker, ach well I suppose its either paedos or incestuous families I suppose P.S Did you know that according to tinternet Oz, that nice family, the Windsors, are in fact evil lizards in human form, isn't tinternet a wonderful beholder of the truth? who knew? I have no idea where Oz borrows its money from and whats more I dont care all I want is loan paid back ASAP nor do I care where Scotland borrows money from, why should I? Our Central Right government hope to have debt paid off by end decade. I posted part of a letter to a SMP I have no thoughts on it one way or other apart from the suspicion Swinney was using Pollie waffle and that it would be a bit complicated for a country with no credit rating to borrow money from normal sources. I decided to check and you obviously have no idea and try to avoid an answer by shifting topic, a usual ploy of yours when you are found to be wrong, then after that playing man, gutter language and insults. I was far more interested in the easier migration angle and steps England would have to take to stop illegal border hopping which was after all the subject of the thread. I've no idea, have I? I'm not the one who posted a, ahem, "letter" which contains no real facts whatsoever, contains only nonsense about some Eurabia conspiracy theory and some anti-Moslem rubbish with no bais in reality whatsoever. To make matters even more imbecilic, you refuse even to post where this letter originated from, so no way then, for its obviously minimal credibility to be checked in any way whatsoever. Now going a wee bit further with your increasingly puerile and ignorant responses, England has no say in immigration policies whatsoever, just in the same way that currently Scotland, Eales or N. Ireland has, that is a reserved matter to the Westminster parliament. Even after Scotish independence, England will still have o direct say per se, as it will be a reserved matter for the rUK parliament ( which will still INCLUDE Wales and Northern Ireland) to decide upon. 'Ll make it easy for you, a you appear to be struggling with some of the concepts at hand, by using a comparison you may be familiar with, is australas immigration policy decidecby, say Tasmania alone, because that's what your saying about the UK or even the rUK Now I know for a fact that you aren't an ignoramus, nor are you without the ability to research stuff, but some of the complete guff you pst about Scottish independence is completely cringeworthy, especially around the lack of actual facts. As an aside, I've shared your, ahem, letter ( I'm indulging you here byraway) with folks I know on both sides of the referendum campaign, to a man ( and wummin) they've al, pshed themselves laughing at the ignorance, gullibility and inherent bigotry of both the writer and anyone mental enough to believe the slightest element of it. Even my pal in Texas, who's as right wing tory as they come, fell about sighing on Skype when I emailed it to him Some have asked me to ass on their thanks for providing them with a wee laugh,

Oz, our credit rating is going to be AAA. The markets react, temporarily, to ANY political change in ANY country, but only to a certain degree. You of all people know this! Do you---- IN ALL SERIOUSNESS---- believe that Scotland's credit will not be good in the wider world? Can you NAME me one independent country that has oil, gas, renewables, whisky and tourism that's got poorer for those assets? Go an

Go an Course you will get a triple A credit rating but only after you have proved yourself..... Blair and Co through mismanagement managed to reduce UK's rating though it has now been restored. You will have to prove sensible government over a period of time to achieve it. The rest you have. Oz under the Rudd/Gillard socialist government's mismanagement but luckily the adult's are back in charge and we hope to be out of debt by 2020 Mind you we dont have whisky but wt do have decent beers and wines.

We can only prove sensible government 100% when we have 100% power to deliver it, OZ. That is what indyref is about. This past 7 years or so, the SNP government has rated highly with voters here. They've delievered pretty much everything on their election manifesto. We voted them in---on a landslide--on the promise to deliver the Referendum. They have done that. Now it's up to the 80%+ who'll turn out to vote on Thursday to determine what happens next. What's happening in Scotland just now's reverberating worldwide. People are QUESTIONING their own political regimes. No matter the result, that HAS to be good.

I'm not denying Bliar and co trashed our economy - but that's a right wing government for you But just to put the trashing in perspective a wee bit, Bliar and Broons government took 13 years to build up a debt of @£750BILLION - in 4 years our current extremely right wing conservative government has taken that to £1.3 TRILLION and counting, with absolutely no plan to reduce it or even halt it

FRIGHTENING!! Timber on our West of Scotland is a huge export too. Our clean energy is going really, really well and looks like it could be a real winner, what do you think OZ? Does OZ have huge Solar energy OZ? No it doesnt. Oz is big (teaching you to such eggs) as a result there is no naional grid appart from most of the East coast so towns or areas have to have their own generation system. Cloncurry in North Queensland in the Gulf Country went pure solar several years ago, Huge parabolic mirrors reflecting sun's heat onto a big heat sink through which was pumped water that turned to steam and drove the turbines. It retained heat when sun wasnt shining and gave 24 power. They still had to keep the diesel generators as stand by. It was hugely expensive and unreliable so they abandoned it now back to diesel. Under rudd/gillard government they encouraged people to put solar panels on house roofs and paid a subsidy for the power pumped back into the grid. It isnt very efficient. My Son in law put them up ($3,500) he is tied into a supplier for 4 years to get the subsidy I think it was $2,000. He tells me he is saving about 10% of his power bill (He is spitting Chips, I am with same electric co and have 15% discount and no contract). Solar panels are used on isolated properties and of all places isolated public telephone boxes to provide power for satellite phones We also have wind-farms which are excellent for chopping up birds but not much else and Distance once more being the bug bear need big subsidies to survive. The other one was wave power a huge machine was to be anchored off the coast to provide power . It might have worked but to broke its moorings and is now lying on the coast instead of off it. The reason for our failure to provide these alternative schemes is that coal and gas fired generation is so much cheaper. La Trobe Valley in Vic and Hunter valley in NSW have huge coal fired power stations built on top of vast deposits of coal which is mined crushed and fed straight into the boilers Qld & parts of WA uses Natural gas which they have oodles Tasmania and parts of Vic and NSW use Hydro. Most other places use oil once again we have oodles. Adelaide is yet to discover electricity The government is withdrawing the subsidies to "sustainable" energy so we shall see how they go.

Laughs from both sides and tears too. Funny how some people see it. In France and most of Europe the support (particularly from parts of Spain) is HUGE and they are sending words of encouragement to is constantly. Oz are ex Scots not supporting us in Oz, in the media I mean, or is it not interesting enough?

I dont know Bormes.
The Brits and the Irish assimilate very fast and become "Aussies" very very quickly most losing interest in UK very fast. Of the few I have spoken to the subject of independence hasnt been raised. Perhaps a passing remark but definitely no discussions. On TV and in papers its is raised without heat or opinion just as general interest with a few serious pieces. The SBS one I posted elsewhere is an example.
We, Aussies, are interested but it wont effect us. I think the general feeling is they would hate to see UK split but its none of our business. That is my feelings too

We, Aussies, are interested but it wont effect us. I think the general feeling is they would hate to see UK split but its none of our business. That is my feelings too That's an interesting view, Oz, that general feeling doesn't want UKE to split. Given that Australia did just that because they too wanted a government that reflected the best interests of the Australian people. Bormes is right, there's a great deal of comment coming in from all over Europe in particular, very much on the side of Scottish independence. The mainstream press here has gone utterly loco this past month. They are posting outright lies, which unfortunately are being picked up and repeated as 'truth' by other media outlets. For one example, out of THOUSANDS, the article you posted did just that. There is no 'banking exodus' here. Certain banks have stated in their risk registers (which all companies are required to hold) that they will move registered offices to London from Scotland. EVERY SINGLE ONE of those banks have declared (not reported in MSM media) that jobs will be unaffected and they have no plans to RELOCATE. Many MANY companies trading in UKE also have registered offices in Ireland as they do business there. It's scaremongering of the worst order. We all KNOW markets are skittish and react to the slightest thing, any risk, anywhere can drive shares and currency values. However, it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, the gossip alone, and often without foundation, can drive the markets. What many people here are saying is: FECK the markets. This decision should be driven by principles, not markets. We are a wealthy country. There's business to be had and livings to be made. The only difference is going to be that the Scottish people will be governed by the Scottish people. The UKE is in a complete panic. Because, as I've been saying here for YEARS, the smug so and sos at Westminster (of ALL parties) took a NO vote for granted and haven't even BEGUN to explain to rUK what the ramifications of YES will be. They'll have to answer to their own voters now.
