According to David CaMoron at the Tory party conference yesterday, a working family who do 30 hours worth a week on minimum wage will (if they vote Tory in 2015) not pay any income tax!
Laugh? I thought I'd never start.
Let's look at the facts; said example family will be means-tested for any topup benefits they currently receive (income support, tax credits).
By increasing their non-taxable income, their top up benefits will reduce accordingly.
So. Family A will in actual fact be over £300 a year worse-off.
I'll say it again till I'm blue in the fecking face. It's not that benefits are too high, it's that WAGES are too low. Everyone that pays tax in the UKE is effectively subsidising companies to pay piss-poor wages, because our welfare system will take care of the gaps.
We have MILLIONS of people out grafting for ridiculously low wages. I totally GET why some give up and feel they're better off on benefits.
People are being hideously exploited here while multi nationals make billions on the back of their work.
Fair day's pay for a fair day's work, I say.

WELL SAID ROLY KEEP FAITH, OZ IS RIGHT NEXT ELECTION NO MORE RED TORIES!! The thing is, Bormes, the Red Tories are ahead in the forecasts for the General Election May 2015. This is possibly because it's only Scotland that considers the Labour party red tories. And what England votes for, the whole UK will get. Much more worrying for me though, is the rise in support for the neo-liberalists, the Blue Tories and the hideous UKIP, who between them have more than 50% of the vote and could, realistically, form an unholy coalition. Grim. Grim. And thrice Grim.

OOOH! Great news, everyone!!!
Today the Tory WM government proclaimed that wages are now outstripping inflation.
How marvellous. Forgive me for not fainting in gratitude.
Given that wages have been on standstill for the past 6 years while inflation has in fact risen year on year, let's all give it WHOOP DE DOO and a round of applause for our Imperial Masters.
Because only they could lie and cheat and try to tell us we're better off. While lowering taxes on the uber-rich and penalising those most vulnerable. Oh WELL DONE!
Straw poll for those forumers living in the UK.
Do you feel better off than you did 1/3/5 years ago?

I'll start then! Naw. I feel worse off than 5/3/1 year ago. That's relatively-speaking of course. Main reasons are huge hikes in the price of food and fuel. I've changed where I shop to the marvellous Aldi and very occasionally at Waitrose for a treat. We've cut our heating and power usage by about 1/3rd but guess what, the annual cost remains about the same I used to work from home one day a week but I rarely do now (in autumn, winter, spring anyway) because heating the house is punitively expensive. We used to eat out, up until 5 years back, maybe once a week. Since, it's been once in a blue moon, special occasions only. Two weeks' holiday a year, used to be three and maybe the odd weekend away in Scotland. Now, me and Mr R aren't exactly working any less, the opposite in fact, but his freelance rates and my salary have been on pretty much standstill for 5 years. Don't take this as a whinge, it's just an observation We're fortunate to be in employment, sure. And that an interest rate hike (which is surely coming) will not mean total catastrophe. Unlike many who're mortgaged and indebted to the hilt. And all because a few greedy psychopathic bankers in league with hideous, duplicitous governments decided to take risks with all our well-being.
I feel so damned sorry for our young people and those who're vulnerable. Sometimes I ponder whether, if I ever get to semi-retire from full-on graft, I might work in the community as a councillor. There are plenty good, qualified people who might think about this, given the momentous changes in Scotland's politics just now. Surely folks with real jobs in industry/commerce have a lot to offer, rather than career politicians? Then again, you need a very thick skin indeed to enter any kind of fray, don't you?

Dont blame the Bankers... Its down to government to govern to prevent the "greedy bankers". They have failed miserably. Dont let these bastards try to shift blame for their incompetence
We went through same thing in early 1990s with the "Asian Melt Down" the government, with brilliant hind sight, tightened bank regs (much wailing and gnashing of teeth from the wankers) , because of very much tighter bank regs and luck we survived the financial crash.
My aunt in Stonehaven still is a volunteer at the local Citizens advice bureau, She says it breaks her heart having to prepare budgets for people and approaching welfare on their behalf so that they can at least buy food and shelter. The people she helps are desperate

Dorothy Grace Elder an ex SNP supporter who threw the dummy out of the pram in a spat with the SNP is doing her best along with, unfortunately many others of similar ilk to vote for labour not the tories as most of her friends normally would as she and others think that there is no chance for the tories nor lib tories not ukip tories so they are exhorting everyone to vote labour. What a bunch of total pricks, particularly as it is a personal vendetta with the silly old fool!!!!

Indeed, I wondered about that too Except she pitched up giving it shriek on the Radio Scotland morning phone-in the other day. Came across quite hysterical, and I don't mean funny..
