Immigration is a reserved matter, controlled by the Westminster government, the Scottish Got have no say on immigration in the slightest.
The Scottish Govt can ask wastemonster to allow these folks to stsy but that's as far as they're allowed to go.
The visa this family came in on was initiated by wastemonster and withdrawn again by the same wastemonster, again the Scottish Govt had no say in the matter

Everyone new, it was made very clear in all the application forms that the UK Home Office is the authority in charge - it's not exactly rocket science Hence why it's called the UK Immigration Service & the UK Border Agency. The clue is in the name. Everyone had to take the word of the UK authorities, it's just a pity that they can't keep it Jeez and people wonder why the Scots wanted independence |

True they should have read the fine print particularly the bit that say never trust any government.
We had a sorta same here in reverse.
A "thug-in-chief" of a bikie gang went back to his Southern European homeland for a trip, he had never taken out Oz nationality, on arrival there the Oz Government revoked his re-entry visa to Oz. That was a few years ago and he is still there with no more legal avenues left to try.

Scotland badly needs immigrants, who want to come and be part of us.
Unfortunately we are hamstrung as the Westminster government reacts to the little englanders and their ant-immigrant pish.
Other regions of UK are in a similar position.

Scotland badly needs immigrants, who want to come and be part of us. Unfortunately we are hamstrung as the Westminster government reacts to the little englanders and their ant-immigrant pish. Other regions of UK are in a similar position. Correct, Nota. The Brain family story is a disgrace. Both parents have been offered jobs but are not allowed to take them under UK Westminster rules. These folks are exactly the kind of *immigrant* Scotland needs and wants; prepared to work for a living while integrating and contributing to their local community. It's a scandal that they're under threat of removal; FM Nicola has pledged to do whatever she can to help them remain but as Nota says, has no actual power to reverse the decision. |

we generally feel a bit pissed off with UK Government about the proposed deportation, just another slap in the face to your best allies. We do deport criminals who have served a minimum time, I cant remember how long,in gaol. At the moment a habitual woman criminal is going to be deported to the UK who some people are drawing a comparison. She has been in OZ since she was 2 and is not an Oz citizen. A bit harsh I think.
But its not the same!
Most people here side with the Brains but think they cant quite be the full quid preferring Dingwall to Queensland.
we had a nasty situation a few years ago. A thug was deported to Serbia, same situation as the woman above except he couldnt speak a work of Serbian. A few months later, in winter, he turned up at Oz embassy in Belgrade, in rags,emaciated and very ill, he couldnt get a job had no welfare, friends or relatives. In Short he was dieing. The OZ bureaucracy took pity on him, treated him and then brought him back to Oz

So I'm taking the above with a serious pinch of salt there, Oz. We've already SAID we want this family to remain here amongst us in Scotland. That Westminster is trying to deport them is shameful. The young boy, 7 I think, has known nothing but Scotland in his young life, NONE of us want to see him dragged away from his school friends and the community he's grown up in. That is MUCH MUCH more important than any weather considerations. I think, anyway. I'm sure Aus makes the odd exception but as far as we know, here in Scotland, just don't bother trying to get in there unless you're on the WISH LIST of professions and have no health issues. EH. |

We instituted same restrictions on immigration from UK as you imposed on us (calling kettle black) at the behest of your lord & masters the EU. You no longer have preferred nation privileges.
We did however take in more than 25,000 UN refugees last year

And it's frankly HILARIOUS that so many BREXIT supporters are themselves ex-pats living in Spain and other EU countries. Bleating about immigration, you have to laff. It is a FACT that many of our public services, including the NHS, simply couldn't survive without immigrant labour-- whether from the EU or non-EU countries. My personal view is that successive governments have happily taken the taxes from immigrant workers while COMPLETELY FAILING to invest back into services such as education, health, etc. to cater for the bigger numbers using them. That and the right-wing press who are giving it laldy whipping up prejudice against immigrants amongst the knuckle draggers who are scarily ignorant of the bigger picture. I sure hope the Brain family gets to stay. But only the Westmonster based Home Office makes that call... |

There is an element of jobswortyness involved, but it is being driven by a government who want to appear tough on immigration. They are targeting the low hanging fruit, people who were hear legally but retrospectively changing the rules/terms suddenly makes them unwelcome Much easier to welcome tax dodging oligarchs, war criminals, despots etc |

So Westmonster is targeting all the wrong people (such as the Brain family) by bringing seriously inflexible rules into play. I must be honest and say I am very very scared that the Brexiteers, along with that dickhead Farage, have played into the hands of low IQ, racist and ignorant knuckle draggers in the South using Project Fear tactics, just like we saw in Indyref. I seriously fear for our country if ruled by an unholy triumvirate of Boris Johnson, Ian Duncan Smith and Michael Gove. Serious incompetents who, like Donald Trump, are potentially dangerous by dint of their utter ignorance. That's why I feel its uber-important that we al cast oul vote on June 23rd and don't let Brexit become a fait-accompli. And of course the fascistic right wing press, Daily Mail/Times/Telegraph are urging the idiots on so they can benefit from the privatisation of public services, particularly broadcasting and the NHS.  |
