Yes, it would seem so, Oz.
Just too many credible satellite images to ignore, I gather, with Aus ships and planes (amongst others) out searching again today in the precise area of the sightings. You can only imagine the process that will follow.
We all know it was the likeliest outcome, I guess. I suppose the best we can hope for now is that this will be proven to be a tragic accident and not, as some of the gutter press speculated, some deliberate act by a person on board.
My heart (like everyone else's I imagine) goes out to the family and friends of passengers and crew. And to those engaged in the recovery work.

It is rather wondefrul that so many nations so-operated and worked together in the search over huge areas.
There is hope for mankind

Very true, Oz. Imagine what we could achieve if we were like that all the time.

Although it is now looking like they might never be found. How on this earth can so many people vanish and never be accounted for? It boggles the mind.

It's starting to look really desperate now, this search, isn't it?
Tony Abbot, AUS prez, was quoted here a couple of days back as saying he was confident of finding signs that would lead to the location of any wreckage but that appears to have been discounted now.
It has been catastrophic on so many levels.

One of the search co-ordinators said it was harder than finding a needle in a haystack when you dont even know which haystack and these guys are good. They found Tony Bullamore? & another French Guy in their capsized yachts in Southern Ocean several years ago! The areas are vast.

Nor likely to be one in the foreseeable future..... We voted against a republic in 1996 or 8 and opinion polls are still showing a significant majority in favour of the present system.

I think yes, it's an incalculable task for the rescue workers, Oz. Anyone with even a basic grasp of geography would recognise that fact.
These poor souls are lost, whether by accident or some bizarre design-- maybe we'll never know what happened here. Just maybe they'll find the flight recorders, and just maybe there will be lessons learned. Or very possibly not.
Haven't we all put ourselves in the place of those now lost and those who grieve their loss? I think so. So there is hope for humanity?
Don't know about you guys but Carpe Diem is how I live now.

Im just happy to wake up every morning so far!
It is incredible the effort being made to find these poor people You Brits have 2 ships here, as well as ships and aircraft from other nations.
Can you imagine Chinese, Japanese, American Planes as well as NZ and our planes sharing a same air force base. It is rather wonderful that its happening
The search co-ordinator, Angus Houston, has taken on s sort of authority figure in Malaya and China.

At least you guys have maritime patrol aircraft , the UK doesn't have such a thing anymore, since they scrapped the nimrods without having anything whatsoever to replace them with. If such a search was needed of our coast we would have to rely on the Irish, Norwegians and Iceland

If such a search was needed of our coast we would have to rely on the Irish, Norwegians and Iceland That might be because the Westminster government have decided to 'lose' 25000 defence jobs and several military bases so's they can still afford to maintain the TRIDENT deterrent--and what's more, shell out several billions IN OUR NAME to replace it with even more modren weapons of mass destruction. Keeping up with the Koreans? OH I think so. It is good, Oz, that countries work together in such circumstances, I just wish it was ever thus instead of this truly silly thing we have now where everyone other than *ourselves* is regarded as a deadly threat. It's so fecking ridiculous, but it seems too many of us remain in thrall of those in ahem.......authority. Aye, so they are....
