Beautifully restored to the original brick walls and fireplace uncovered from under decades of plasterboard and black paint. Big sparky log fires rule! I really do. Memory jogged the wall in your pic is "punch'n dabbed coursed rubble"... probably "Giffnock" stone The architect who "did it up" had great taste and the craftsmen who did it were the equal of any; just sad that nowadays they are in too big a hurry to do work of this calibre but given the opportunity they can still do it. BTW the fireplace aint original it would have been the recess for the range and a bit higher. Someone has done a magnificent job of replicating the style ( I think much later than us but I cant remember, I think ours was all fakey fakey) Its the one thing I really miss from UK is the old buildings. The oldest one we have here 1797 extended in 1843.. Elizabeth Farm cottage, I know coz we restored it in late '70s, and apart from the remains of a stone wall on the Abrolhos Islands off WA , a Dutch castaways fort in 1690s thats it Gees its working on these old buildings... looking at something and wondering "how the F***k did they do that??" and trying to figure it out so we could replicate it. These old guys were bright!!

So happy you like it, Oz Yeah, I know what you mean about the ability to build/replicate versus taking the easier/cheaper route of flinging up some concrete block of no style whatsoever! One example I can think of--that I like--is the Radisson on the Royal Mile. Another is a new-build on a TOTY green field site on Hyndland Rd that replicates the original terrace next to it. Looks v authentic. But the builders, as ever, are giving it high spec interiors and pricing the homes at £700K, FFS!!!!! You'd have to be pretty daft to spend that when for the same money you can live well away from a major arterial road AND get a wee bit garden out front and back... Attachments:

www.corumproperty.co.uk/html/property-view/highburgh-road-dowanhill-glasgow~4476Highly optimistic view there of out front, quelle surprise! There's about 3 feet between the front doors and the pavement, if that. Only room for a couple of things that grow up the way! That'd make it pretty dark inside, given it's north-facing... Pavement is really narrow and there's no parking out front. Because it's a majorly busy road, jammed with cars and very frequent buses. Helluva noisy--- about 10 feet from Cotters bar at back and another 10 from the Rock bar across the road. BeerGarden-tastic! And very short on privacy too--- you can see right inside the rooms from the bus---trust me, I pass by every day! £700+ K? They're having a laugh.

love the Radisson Nice building. We restored White Horse Close off the Royal Mile (Where according to the whisky bottle coaches left for London)
THe flats in Hyndland roads are nice flats but on wrong site being overlooked by interested bus passengers. My first job in Glasgow was council flats in Prince Albert Road/Avenue/Drive? something. New flat here of equivelent Standard woould be abour £400K-£600K I think

Mull is an unexpected place to find an Australian National Trust sign The site is owned by the Australian National Trust and managed by the Scottish National Trust. One great Scot generally unknown in his own country

Oooh. He's a bit scary if you're coming up the path from the pub in the dark... In Scotland those that voted no would call that a Pelican't.

Gorgeous of course. But doesn't it get a bit, you know, BORING, when the weather's OK most of the time? We Scots just get such a high from collapsing to our knees in gratitude when the temperature rises over 15C. In Summer. The worst thing about taking our hols in hot places is having to bloody well come back.

The worst thing about taking our hols in hot places is having to bloody well come back. Am afraid we take the weather for granted. we can arrange BBQs, picnics. pool paries and the like weeks ahead with reasonable expectations that the weather will be ok However having said that before and during the Sinny limpix we were banned from holding outdoor weddings, washing and polishing cars, watering the garden and the like coz as everyone knows they are most potent harbingers of rain. It worked we didnt have any rain during the games. 15 thats lower that our usual winter daytime temps. It can drop below 10 at night. Personally I prefer Brisbane weather to Sydney not so cold in winter
