Mad crazy busy down in Merchant City this week as preparations reach fever pitch Lots of effort by way of beautifying, flowers everywhere, NEW PAVEMENTS, thank eff ...flags flying everywhere, and in our bit at City Halls, we're getting ready to transform ourselves over the weekend into Scotland House. Athletes friends and family lounge, international business meeting space and we at the Scottish Music Centre are the Festival Hub and Welcome Desk plus loads of drinks receptions, gigs, and showcases for our international guests. And the Ryder Cup and Queen's Baton will be on display too. The Old Fruitmarket next door is showing the Games on big screens all day every day so a great place to shelter if the weather turns--- and the whole area pedestrianised with open music stages and international food stalls. Biggest concern really is the road closures throughout town which will be disruptive to those working fixed peak hours...but it's only for 10 days and lots of folks will opt to work from home anyway. Not us though, we're full on and looking forward to welcoming our guests. It's one hell of a lot of money to spend that some, including me, think might have been better spent in other ways..but we are where we are and hope everyone visiting has a mighty fine time.

I don't think any of us gives a flying one who *wins* or not, OZ. That's how we roll here in Scotland. I think we kinda trust in ourselves: we don't really have anything to prove re our place in the world. We know ourselves very well in that regard and we can well afford to be uber-generous Success isn't always measured by prizes. Not here anyway GEES read the bloody thing it was about us not you Talk about Scottish touchiness. It was taking the piss out of previous AUSTRALIAN games committees I never listened to the radio clip but I read the press piece. Just seemed to me to underline all the prejudices about Glasgow, re diet and drinking. It came over a bit snide to me, but then as I explained elsewhere I'm tired, grumpy and impatient I do quite often feel, Oz, that you take flying pops at the country you left behind. You and I are not that far apart in age and I remember very well the Glasgow/Scotland you fled from..... but say again, you've been away too long. So much has changed for the better. Come on back and see us sometime?

Thank you very much for your kind offer but I cannot see us visiting UK any time in the foreseeable future much to our disappointment Last time I was in Scotland was 1985 and I got lost in Glasgow trying to go to Bishopbriggs. Other memory was in a mobile carpark in Great Western Road with Mrs Oz making sandwiches for lunch in our motor home much to the interest of passengers in a Corpy bus along side us.

1985? Wow, nearly 30 years back. You'd see some amazing changes since then, Oz.. Not on Great Western Road though, it's the same as it's always been, and one of my favourite roads in the city. I live just off it and yeah, this time of year the motor homes and foreign tour coaches are pretty much bumper to bumper! It's pretty much underwater tonight though! Absolutely pelting down all day, and Ms Rolo's about to set sail for her work down Ashton Lane. Good luck to the Australian teams in the Games! I hope Glasgow looks stunning on the telly, no doubt you'll get the odd glimpse over by? There's media teams in our building covering the whole shebang so I'll endeavour to hang about in the background if I spot the Aussies...and give you a wave!

(Mon- Fri 5am - 9am AEST) www.2gb.com/listen-liveI am positive tyou will put on a great show. Just keep an eye on the Aussies, they tend to be an unruly mob and if they get to together with the Kiwis PS and thats just the athletes

Thanks for sending Allan's pic, I will look out for him. Shellie is a force of nature, and I do hope you get footage over there of the Australian/NZ delegation which is called Boomerang. We forged the international links with our antipodean colleauges on Showcase Scotland at Celtic Connections back in January. The guys are already here, and have been performing up at Hebcelt Festival this weekend. www.glasgow2014.com/news/features/boomerang

Me and Ms Rolo, on our walk from our home in Cleveden to the Botanics today, encountered a delegation of Commonwealth workers from England who're being accommodated in the Uni halls of residence in the area. They were walking around the neighbourhood, getting acclimatised to their post in Glasgow. As the group approached us, we smiled and said Hello and Welcome. G*d knows what they expected-- but there was a palpable sense of relief that the natives are indeed friendly.
