Aahhhahaha Brilliant!! Ashton Lane had the Cobbles lifted to replace them tightly, however so many were stolen (now in gardens!!) they have had to put them down with gaps of two to three inches!! The cement used to badly join them has turned a strange light grey colour accentuating the bad spacing!!

In greenock, some nutter a few years ago, thought it a great idea to patch cobbled streets with normal tarmac, after holes had been dug for utilities etc - looks completely stupid and these are teh only bits that need repaired regularly - needless to say they've now realised their madness and dont do that now

Scotland and Glasgow can gain a lot of friends with these Games. We are already a very friendly city, this can accentuate it and as a by product it will do no harm for the YES campaign.

Couple of Aussie lassies interviewed on TV remarked how friendly everyone is. The Aussie, Aussie, Aussie cry is now being heard in Glasgow so they were saying. That guy from Glasgow Corp that spoke at the opening looked a miserable bugger

From today's Herald THE baton was even seen in the city's trendy west end. Observed local Cameron Munro: "How disappointing to many of us west end residents that it was not carried by a nominated tree hugger or reiki specialist. My spirits were lifted, however, when reports emerged that, after the baton had gone elsewhere, a workshop was organised in Hyndland to discuss the baton's sociological significance and impact on feminism." Hahahahaaaaaaaa! Herald Diary perchance? Fantastic couple of days here in Glasgow so far though, seriously! The atmosphere is phenomenal, street parties day and night, town is full of visitors and residents alike, all having a complete ball. Opening ceremony last night was pretty amazing, did any of you see it? Didn't think Rod Stewart was up to much myself...and wee Susan Boyle was overcome by nerves but Nicky Benedetti and Julie Fowlis just fantastic. That bit with Chris Hoy stepping up to help open the Queen's Baton to get the message out was priceless Unlike her predecessor Queen Victoria, she looked mightily amused... This though, is my favourite pic so far. Two Aussie athletes taking a selfie were photobombed by the Queen herself. Bloody hilarious this: Attachments:

Oooh, I posted that not having seen Oz get there before me! Just playing catchup on the day's events, bear with me! I thought it was fine that Alex Salmond gave such a concise, considered speech, leading into a minute of silence for the victims of MH17 and that for the first time ever, the occasion was used to highlight Unicef's work to put children first. Apparently 3.5 million quid had been raised by this morning, that is really something. Wee Gordon Matheson, Leader of GCC, came over a bit oddly, shouting as he did, even though the mic was switched on, LOL What was he on? I've been working on cultural events (party town!) so am just catching up now on the sports news of the day. Spotted an Aussie commentator with a shirt saying Gold Coast (something) outside Scotland House earlier when I nipped out for a quick ciggie and breath of air..it wasn't yer man though, Oz. Also caught a bit of Shellie's soundcheck in the Old Fruitmarket next door last night. Boy she is amazing. What presence.

I loved it that when Team England arrived on the scene at the opening ceremony they got a huge cheer from the audience. The Daily Fail had run a story a couple of weeks back that they were all terrified of being booed and had sought advice from their team managers how to deal with that. Completely made up of course--- just to stir up the usual DM hatred agenda Re the Red Arrows last night; the story's emerging that Jack Morton Enterprises, the company responsible for the opening ceremony, had agreed back in February with the Red Arrows management that they'd trail blue and white smoke. The UKE Westminster government blocked this on the day of the ceremony. It that wasn't so tragic it'd be hilarious. Actually it's HILARIOUS...

The UKE Westminster government blocked this on the day of the ceremony. It that wasn't so tragic it'd be hilarious. Actually it's HILARIOUS... The decision to block the red arras using just blue n white smoke just seems really quite petty - what I find laughable thouigh is the UK government trying to make it a positive thing - weird! Pumeza Matshikiza singing Freedom Come All Ye - was magical - must have made the unionists cringe n squirm - as its a candidate for oor new national anthem - wonderful song for virtually any context. She got interviewed on radio hootsmon yesterday - wonderful girl As an aside ( and very close to the hearts of a couple of folks on here) the same programme had a wee feature on best places to eat in glasgow - the girl waxed lyrically about a place she loved and how much it meant to her but its gone now and how she misses it - Grosvenor Cafe in Ashton Lane The camera angles for the dancin teacakes Scottish montage spoiled it a bit - john barrowman was cringeworthy - but then again ah cannae stick him anytime - does Scotland have a decent song n dance man nowadays? Rod Stewart - pish - Deacon Blue singing Dignity would have been great and in context, RunRig would have been fantastic for that sort a show tae Susan Boyle - ah struggle to condone any criticism in the slightest of Susan at any time, not really my cup of tea as an entertainer, but the lassie has achieved so much considering her background and is happy to keep her feet well and truly planted on the ground - a real national treasure But teh biggest highlight was surely Queen Lizzie getting a standing ovation and cheered at Parkheid, god save teh queen being sung loudly and red white n blue from teh red arras over the stadium - ye couldnae make it up - hilarious
