Yes, too right, Nota. Erraid Davies from Shetland was born with a congenital hip defect and could barely walk at the age of 4. Her parents encouraged her to swim as therapy. She 'hid' the fact she was competing at Commonwealth from her school pals. And won bronze at only 13. I saw another young girl competing in the long jump yesterday who suffers from cerebral palsy, yet competes with her more able-bodied peers. And a young swimmer I mentioned earlier who despite the loss of two lower limbs, competed in the swimming. And the 100 metre sprint for visually-challenged young athletes tonight was something else. It's humbling, it really is.

Some of our medal winners in swimming, judo and cycling got a rapturous reception at the Old Fruitmarket a couple of hours ago in between sets from Salsa Celtica and The Funky Shepherds of Lesotho. It was WELL past wee Erraid's bedtime, if you ask me! (you can just see her 6th from left) Attachments:

Rod Stewart - pish - Deacon Blue singing Dignity would have been great and in context, You mibbe wondered how I never responded to this the other day, Nota? Well, it's because I had to keep schtum that they're doing the closing ceremony on Sunday. But it's now *announced*... When I bore you all half to death with my tales of touring travels with *me and mine*, these are the mine.. In 1986 (!) on Deacons' first foray out of Scotland with me in a management/tour management role, we were supporting Sandie Shaw on a few dates in England. Mr R was on outfront sound for her. He loved DB from Day One, as did I... A few months later he (an expat Scot) moved back to Scotland to work with us permanently and he and I have been together ever since, that'll be what, 28 years next month He will be on outfront sound in the stadium on Sunday. I'm hoping for "Dignity" and big crowd-singing! (In a public poll recently it was voted No 1 for the alternative Scottish national anthem..) I hope my pals here get a chance to tune in and enjoy it with us. Here's the somewhat dated video we made in 1986. Shot at Culzean Castle beach mid-winter. The lyrics haven't dated one bit and if anything, more relevant than ever: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsr9HCOgQe0HOME.. FAITH.. WORK..

We went tae see dougie in June - he was rather good and very entertaining - explained every song, the reasons behind it and talked with the audience as if he was sitting next to ye - Mrs N, not the greatest lover of folky music relished every minute

Wonder if the LBC Will allow him or show him singing Caledonia?
Personally I like the song but prefer Frankie Millers rendition!

Think a lot of people do B, probably due to its "original" exposure in the Tennants lager advert back in the 80s The Paulo Nutini is good too, although not to did-similar to the frankie miller version The Dougie version is a lot softer

Ceremony's on live here, BBC1 I think, in the UK about 9pm Sunday, Bormes-- and beamed worldwide to up to a billion, apparently. No nerves in this house, oh no, (she lied...). Anyways, it's going to be Dignity and a rather touching set-piece setting that I hope everyone will *get* and enjoy. (If I'm honest re Caledonia, I prefer Frankie's version too. But it's a great song and all kudos to Dougie, who wrote it.) That's me and Mr R just home after one of the most challenging gigs he's ever done. The Sound to Sea of the OP. It was really something! More in a bit...

I heard a great wee story tonight, out and about at events around town. Apparently, the team bus carrying the Cook Islands athletics team had a bit of an issue on the way to Hampden Stadium and ground to halt at the side of the road. A Firstbus (Corpy to you, Oz ) driver stopped to see what the commotion was all about. And on learning they were stranded, told them to hop on and he'd get them there in time. Complete with a busload of passengers, who didn't seem to mind a bit about the detour. A laurel...and hardy handshake to that man! People Make Glasgow, indeed. (ps there have been a couple of noted *crimes* unfortunately. Not See You Jimmies attacking visitors of course...but an Australian weightlifter who attacked another competitor and a random Londoner who stole an athlete's pass and tried to gain access to the village..)
