So true, I am pro Scot yet I am genuinely not anti English, I have said that before on posts and the only thing I can level at England that I am intolerant of is the amount of illegal immigrants that the Govt., is closing it's eyes to.

The SNP of COURSE want to have a few years of government under their belt, to prove their competence. It would have been silly to go earlier before they'd had a chance to put their policies (the ones we voted for in great numbers!) into action. Looking at a much bigger picture, it has to be added that the clingers-on to the unionist parties are going to need as much time as possible to be allowed to change their minds (as they are certainly going to have to contemplate - what part of 'SNP landslide' do they not understand?) with any degree of dignity... if they are hungry to cling to power they are going to have to get real about the fact of a the huge change that is happening in Scotland. The union is damned, and the SNP is being immensely gracious in giving the apparatchiks a generous amount of time to save their faces.... </devil's advocate> I'm pro-Scottish before I'm anything else. I'm not "anti-English", but my god, I could certainly find it in me to be quite fiercely anti- certain-English... ...starting with every clueless creature infesting Westminster and Whitehall, that have set out over decades to ignore, devastate and despoil Scotland with not a second thought. I am very, very angry at what I have witnessed befall Scotland at the hands of those creatures, throughout my life...and I don't let go of legitimately-held grudges until and unless it's right and proper to do so.

Well, personally speaking, I believe it'd be unworthy of us to vote against the Union because of historical grudges, legitimate as they might well be. Cause for anger, sure, but....... I think we have to concentrate on the real questions we face NOW. Such as; What kind of country do we want to live in? What legacy would we prefer to leave our young people? What are our intrinsic values? How can we place ourselves in the wider world to the betterment of the Scottish people? Sure, it's fucking difficult to resist taking pops back at the more rampant anti-Scots sentiment. That game's a bogey, IMV, if we stoop to their level.

I think we have yet to hear the real vitriol, which I suspect will come from labour, as, if Scotland has independance, they will be the biggest loser. England will revert to old tory.

It's very very far from a done deal, Bormes as support for independence is still well short of the 50%.
The referendum campaign kicks off on Sunday, we've all been invited to a big meeting. Short term the target's the council elections in May. Interestingly there's been a surge in membership in our branch since the beginning of the week. Tells you something! ;D ;D ;D

Not at all, I've had the exact same symptoms as yourself Pounding heart, blood pressure probably at slightly worrying levels, fury, you name it. I had a truly terrible moment yesterday when a composer of English origin but who's lived and worked here for 30 years---and who I'm very fond of--- came into the office and kicked off a conversation about current politics. I didn't agree with anything he said but I'm required to appear apolitical in my job. I had to contain myself and felt damned close to cardiac arrest in the process ;D ;D ;D But ultimately my head tells me we need to show restraint in the face of the sheer viciousness and untruths-- and go forward to present positive, realistic, achievable plans for the future of Scotland. I honestly don't believe that ranting about past injustices is going to win over hearts and minds.

Ooh... Nicola Sturgeon and Douglas Alexander head to head on Question time tonight - coming up shortly. That was horrible. <head in hands here> The girl was hardly allowed her turn to speak. Constantly and rudely interrupted when she tried to, particularly by Jonathan Dimbleby, who one would have supposed should have adhered to a neutral political view but gave the game away with his partisan ranting. A fair and frank exchange of views, it was not. However, head over heart here. The Westminster Unionist parties are coming over as totally desperate to keep Scotland in the Union. I'm guessing nobody here needs to ask why.

I thought the wee toad Alexander acted like a child by constantly repeating a question even while she was speaking her answer, it was like a crowd of lions feeding on prey. The surprise for me was the attitude of the ex Sun editor. I was pleased with his answer on the Scottish question.

It's an unsatisfactory, frustrating, insulting, pointless exercise in hot air for everyone of every political stripe. (fist in mouth, mustn't say it, mustn't say it!!)...Early on in the show, I was applauding Kelvin MacKenzie, for his spot-on comments about Eck!! Interesting "on the other hand".... neither Cameron or any of the unionist parties have got a clue about Scotland, and they surely know that every time they open their mouths they're only making things worse for themselves. So....What if Cameron's tactic is actually "*if* Scotland goes independent, then there'll be no more Labour in London at all forever and ever and it'll be the glorious US, The conservatives, The Natural Party of Government, forever and a day...So: let's get rid of the Jocks!" What is it he's going to take the risk on....being the man who broke up the union, or the man who ensured the adoration of London, the home counties and the moneyed sorts of England by ensuring Conservative infestation of Westminster forevermore...?
