I have met GG and his family, I assure you he is a big headed fellow. That does not mean he has no conviction or passion. He has conviction, he is passionate about some of his beleifs of that I totally agree with. However he is like Connoly, a massive ego.

1. His personal life is separate from his politics and it's naive & pointless to conflate the two.
2. I don't see how a person could possibly want to go into politics unless one has a big ego. "Things are a mess, the people need me to sort this out, I want people to vote for me".
So he has a big ego. So what? He's a politician; it's his beliefs and convictions that are important.

I can't stand the man. He is self-serving, egotistical, vain and . . . wait, he's a 'politician so what should I expect? Bradfordistan, Bormes? Tut tut. Admirable Scottish cringe; a perfect illustration of it. GG is a damn clever, educated, moral Scottish politician and he has stuck to his guns all his days. He's the most honest speaker and the best rhetorician in British politics. He ploughs his own furrow. You "can't stand" that? And please, don't bring up big brother. It's got absolutely nothing to do with his politics. Personally I am delighted at this win and I look forward to the havoc he will wreak in that utterly demeaned and tarnished House - and in "New Labour" in particular. I just hope he manages to inflict some damage before he gets bored with the fact that there is nothing in Westminster that is anywhere near his intellectual level. Interesting times. I don't get the Scottish cringe thing. All I've done is stated my opinion about a particuler person. I think you're right that he will get bored because of his perceived intellectual superiority. Or should that be ego?

By the way, Mini, where do you stand on the various Chinatowns in major cities all over the globe? Is that a tut tut moment as well now? ;D What about Little Italy in NYC? Usually on the corner.

Indeed; and as I asked: GG is a damn clever, educated, moral Scottish politician and he has stuck to his guns all his days. He's the most honest speaker and the best rhetorician in British politics. I believe there are many pinbrains in parliament who have far bigger egos than GG. They will presently be shitting themselves.

So what you're actually saying is you can't stand the fact - and it is a fact - that he's a damn clever, educated, moral Scottish politician and he has stuck to his guns all his days. He's the most honest speaker and the best rhetorician in British politics. He ploughs his own furrow. Hmmm?

Westy I can not agree with him being "moral" I too find him dishonest. He in my opinion does not care for the Moslems the way he makes out. He has found a vehicle to push HIMSELF forward and would drop them the moment a better vehicle came along.

Probably true to say GG polarises people, Oz. He's a bit of a maverick but plain speaking, well educated and highly erudite. He no longer toils under any party whip. The Daily Fail doesn't like that. The Daily Fail doesn't like anyone with an IQ approaching treble figures--- unless they're a Tory politician. The Daily Fail hates anyone with a mind of their own. The Daily Fail continually gives snide bad press to anyone that's sued them (and won) in the past. Kate Moss, Madonna, Hugh Grant, Elton John... The Daily Fail promotes traditional Englishness, utterly despises women, immigrants, minorities and is, in short, the most xenophopic, sexist, ultra right-wing rag. It appeals to thick people who have nothing more constructive to do than whinge. Its journalists attempt to rabble rouse the ordinary working person into hating everyone else, while salaried at anything north of £80k. The editor earns £1.6 million a year. THEY don't want the likes of GG calling it. Of course they don't!

Their most infamous headline being "Hurrah for the Blackshirts" as they supported Moseley and his British Union of Fascists

Your Daily Mail doesnt like him. Any truth in their report? There is never any truth whatsoever in the daily Fail. Ever. You don't remember him ripping the US Senate a new arse, a few years back? Infamous & memorable event in recent global politics. Watch and enjoy (in 5 parts) www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnflzhtDkJM ;D
