And that's why I'm glad to see him back in our parliament.
I have major reservations about his take on all things Arabic and Islamic, but by god he should cause some fireworks among the Westminster apparatchiks and nodding donkeys.

However worth remembering, shirley, that just as not all Roman Catholic priests are paedophiles and not all Christians are evangelists, not all Islamic people are fundamentalists.

I had a slightly different take on his speech to the Senate. I thought it was truthful, and a good many Americans were saying the same things, but I did think he was up himself.
However, I got a headache just listening to him rant. It was just like church used to be when the preaching of hellfire and brimstone was taking place. I wanted to tune out.

The following of Islam cannot be anything other than absolutely fundamental. Islam is all about, and only about, spreading Islam. The job of each and every Muslim is to convert the infidels. The infidels who will not convert are to be killed. That's their law; the core of their faith. The core tenet of Islam is that their unsavoury and unpleasant scripture is the literal word of god, therefore the whole of the law, and is perfect and unimprovable. A true Muslim cannot - may not - live other than by that law. Any so-called Muslim who does not believe those fundamentals is about as Muslim as I am Catholic. There is a big difference between Islam and any of the other Abrahamic religions.

I thought the Republican Chairman guy thought himself so superior to George, dealing with an inferior from a backward country. George went on a bit certainly but he put that guy firmly in his place. He also reminded chairman that he had been awarded damages from a UK newspaper in an UK court for the same accusations. I think he did very well All pollies are up themselves

Yes, if he was on my side, I would be glad.
I don't think that, generally, anything from the UK is viewed as backward or less than.
Republicans think everyone is beneath them. They are the wealthy.

When they want to show something really posh and snobbish, it's always English. Also whenever anything is educated or Old Worldy, it's always British.

There is a big difference between Islam and any of the other Abrahamic religions. I'm not sure about that bit, Westie. As far as I know there are conflicting interpretations of the Koran, when it comes to the killing of all infidels. Fundamentalists choose to interpret it that way, sure, however I believe the vast majority of Muslim people are not fundamentalists. You're right about the spreading of the religion being a basic tenet though; just as it is in catholicism, and protestant evangelism. Both of these also use fear as a deterrent; going to the bad fire and the Rapture respectively.

I think he did very well All pollies are up themselves GG did an excellent job on Newsnight last night. Jeremy Paxman, as usual, kicked off the interview with an insult regarding GG's past voting record in the House. This to the man who'd just won the biggest by election victory in history Total utter lack of 'respect' ;D from Paxman. GG told JP he was not fit to judge him. I was on my feet cheering
