If Scotland runs itself again, I wonder how many politicians will then run back up to Scotland to try to be elected with whichever party they wish to represent??

Career politicians, all. It's all about them......not the people they give lip-service to representing. We're all in it together though, of course. Ain't we?

As I inferred previously, with a year to go, our government are now releasing details on all aspects of how Scotland will be run after a Yes vote. First up is defence. And as I'd mentioned, it's NOT about warmongering at Westmonster or US behest. Tis about defending Scotland should we be threatened with attack and playing a humanitarian role in warzones globally. I fully endorse this as a policy, it makes utmost sense to me, both financially and morally. www.snp.org/media-centre/news/2013/aug/substantial-savings-defence-indy-scotland

No bombing other countries "back to the stone-age" based on lies and imperial delusions of grandeur or at the behest of others in their quest for oil and making a fast buck - those types of countries can go fuck themselves

OK, the momentum's growing after the publication of the Scottish Government White Paper, setting out a broad plan for Scotland's future. There have been five polls since the release, all of which showing a distinct swing to YES. Yesterday, YouGov (official)posted the results from last week's poll on voting intentions; YES 37% NO 44% UNDECIDED 19% This represents a 7% swing to YES in just a few weeks. And it means, essentially, that 56% of Scots are open to the idea of independence. I'm well aware what the YES campaign needs to do is make sure traditional Labour and Lib Dem voters who're disenchanted with the Union (and disinclined to vote) REALISE that a vote for indy means they too can help shape our future. Talk with family, friends, colleagues: ask their opinions, have an honest debate After a YES vote, WE will elect a government that truly represents OUR country's economy and ambition, and OUR views on education, health and social welfare.

Is that meant to be a serious piece of work - or even hauf serious? The actual facts mentioned ( there are a few) are so outnumbered by complete tosh it makes them unusable

As an example of media stupidity, it's right up there, Gilly! Thanks for pointing out what inanity we're up against. The level of debate from the No Campaign really is insulting to us all, don't you think?

I think that part of the problem is the media treatment of our destiny, be that as an Independent country or remaining part of the United Kingdom. Today's historic (was it really?) meeting with the Bank of England's Governor has clearly blown the 'No Campaign' out of the water for there was nothing said by the Governor that 'we' couldn't keep the Pound. However, it would 'he' reckons require us to forfeit some fiscal autonomy over 'taxation and interest rates'.
I merely posted this because it is quite clear that the undecided like me, are being fed tosh, whilst there are others who provide more complex and academic responses, some of them too long to read, some too difficult to comprehend. And so the Scottish public are getting the snippets, some will be of value somewhere, some won't but it doesn't help any of us really, does it?
After today's meeting with Eck and The Gov - my initial thought was 'well what's the point of splitting?' If I am asking that question, how many others are? I'm really struggling, I've read what I am able to read, when I am able to read it. I've been through the White Document, I've read some of the online links you folks have posted and yet, in my gut, I'm still undecided and that is most unlike me.
This is it for me - this is why I am contributing to this thread.... I have two young daughters, they are both extremely gifted and talented and part of that is because we've encouraged them to fulfill their potential but we could do more and here is my struggle, both born in the UK but if I decide to vote for Indy, will I come to regret it and feel that I've let them down? Will I vote for the status quo and come to regret it and feel I've let them down. My trouble is, I'm quite a simpleton, I want it easy, I want it clear, concise and factual - this is what WILL happen if we leave and this is what WILL happen if we stay.
It's quite a heavy burden, it's not one that I take lightly and it's one that actually bothers me a lot. It's not my future that I worry about but those of my two beautiful wee girls... I don't want to betray them and I want them to have the best opportunities in life and Rolo, I know you'll tell me that's with an Independent Scotland but I'm still uncertain and time is marching on, September will be upon us, in not time!
