Today in 1707 the joint parliament of England and Scotland came into being!

Scotland was threatened with invasion if they did not agree. We were pretty broke too, after the Dorian Gap shambles. Hopefully we will run ourselves again soon.

It was only the "parcel of rogues" who were broke - the scottish burghs were actually well off - so much so that Scotland as a whole was in a better financial position ( debt wise and balance of payments) than england Darien was a disaster - but not just down to poor planning and stuff by Scots - the dutch and the english conspired to ensure it would fail - for what would now be known as "geo-political reasons"

It was an effin disaster, granted. And we've never been allowed to forget it since. My view? That was then, this is now. Anyone wanting to break away, to be ambitious, to create change is aye gonna be the media's bogeyman. Or person.... Unfortunately I worry VERY MUCH that Scots are being SO distracted by immediate concerns re recession and just keeping wolf from door, that proper thinking on longer term politics is going out the window, way down the list from personal finance worries. So much is being made by the NO Campaign to cause further insecurity re us not having the balls to go for indy. Stay safe, is the message. Except-----there's no better time than NOW to effect change and take our future (financial, well being, as a decent society) into our own hands. I DO NOT TRUST the Tories, (quelle surprise) OR the shambles that's the Labour Party to serve the best interests of Scotland. Do you? <not to mention the rabid UKIP, most of whose members are in need of the judicious use of straitjaikets > Let's try not to get too distracted by tactics and keep our eye firmly on the ba'.

Agreed, however strange that UKip is now the third party pushing the LibDems into 4th !! The reporting is awful and biased. Listening to that wee bachle, lament in first ministers questions, I cringe at her homilies and her attempts at humour, she waffles on before finally asking a question, mind you that is good for the SNP if she is the quality that wants to run Scotland, help us please, unfortunately many people are too scared to have the courage to vote yes, three hundred years of brainwashing might be working?? Anyone who can see beyond the media and political lies can clearly see Scotland WILL be better running ourselves again.

Agreed, however strange that UKip is now the third party pushing the LibDems into 4th !! The reporting is awful and biased. In England, yes, UKIP have had a few victories this week. It's only to be expected that LIbDems are getting a hiding at the polls because they've betrayed everyone who's voted for their so called values. It's commonplace for the government of the day, in mid-term, to do badly in local elections. My worry is that England's shaping up to be some kind of BIZARRE choice between the Tories and UKIP. IMO. UKIP are a bunch of raving, delusional lunatics. And yet another reason why Scotland needs to vote YES to indy. It's the only way we'll get the government WE VOTE FOR.

She really is one fecking terrible excuse for a politician.

Her being in charge in Scotland kind of reminds me why the Diddy Ed is in charge of laboor in England, he was chosen by the comrades of the Unions.

If there is, why aren't they standing up and being counted, rather than toe-ing the LIEBOOR-SCUM party line?
