I'd also add 'Do your research with an open mind' and 'Ask those awkward questions' ;D
The more transparent and honest the process the better.
I have to say I laughed out loud at one commenter on the BBC site earlier. S/he slagged off the SNP for daring to include 16 and 17 year olds in the vote. S/he does not want to 'have the future of Scotland decided by a bunch of disaffected teenagers'.
Arse.

That'll do for me, Sir Henry! I'm not sure I've ever got over my crush on Chris Squire... www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJM7TdshUbw&feature=relatedBut back to politics! ;D Let's not forget the Independence referendum's a cross-party Scottish Government campaign, not solely the property of the SNP. Labour's Denis Canavan and Green Patrick Harvie were vociferous at the launch the other day.

Had a guy on TV last night giving us the low down on iot . Meant to note down his name but I forgot Andrew something English posh-boy accent, late 40s, possibly Andrew Marr. Scottish accent, early 60s, possibly Andrew Neil. Had a look at the SMH piece, Oz. OOOOH, guy in kilt and deeply ill-advised shoes! Well, we're well used to being made to look like Braveheartian idiots. But mostly we're keeping our dignity...and chalking up each and every instance of biased press pieces and utterly ridiculous statements from our current Westminster government in our very, VERY long memories....

On a scale of one to ten, I'd give it a 7.
Fair reportage for the most part but no idea why they wheeled in Tam Dalzell.
Not too happy about the Coldstream references either.
What this whole thing's about is a very simple question; do you believe that the Scottish people should be able to self-determine our fiscal and social policies?
It's not about being anti-English. It's about being pro-Scottish.

Thats good to know. I think SBS is most balanced news here but with so much bullshit around you never really know ande its great to have it confirmed.

Re. the voting at 16 thing. I think some of the folk who complain loudly about the idea might be forgetting that Labour and LidDems are also in favour of extending the franchise to 16 and 17 year olds. It seems just to be suddenly not good enough for the independence referendum - a case of oppose anything the SNP says just out of habit.
Well, actually, that's not entirely true: it's not that I think they are "forgetting", it's more that I suspect there's a type of person who likes to start shouting loudly before checking facts. ;D

I hadn't a scooby that any other party had made a point of the 16/17 year olds voting rights. When did that happen? As for voting agin the SNP out of habit, well yeah. We know that certain parties scuppered the first attempt to up-price (I made that up btw) alcohol nonsense. Not because of considerations of what might be a good idea, but because it was an SNP policy. I'm glad they've given it a second shot (pardon the pun) and it's now to become law. Have to say I'm not entirely convinced that raising the price will make a HUGE difference because I believe it's more a cultural thing than a price thing---------but maybe the start of changing mindsets, I dunno. It does seem to me though that cross-party pollies might just be starting to get it with regard to us deciding what's in our best interests generally. Then again, maybe just they're just caving in to an inevitability in a hope of winning votes. GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

The thing that worries me about giving 16 /17 year olds the vote is they have no experience of life in a cruel hard world and are inclined to vote with their heart and not their head
